The BrailleMe uses BRF files, and theoretically, it can use larger volume sizes. However, we recommend that you use the 2 MB files because of a complication in the way the BrailleMe editor searches in a file. Before you can jump to a definition, the display insists on searching the entire file, rather than stopping when it finds the first result. This means that searching in a larger file takes a lot longer without having much reason to do so.
Some versions of the BrailleMe firmware don't show files whose file names are longer than 40 characters. The files for our dictionaries are often this long because they list the first and last word defined in each volume and have the full name of the dictionary. We've also seen reports that accented letters may not work well with some versions of the firmware. It may be necessary to rename the files to something shorter. Our suggestion is to cut the name of the dictionary and the ending word from the name so that the files stay in order and you can use the first word in each volume to find the right one. We know that's inconvenient, and we arre always looking for a better way to provide this. If you have any ideas or questions, let us know.
Innovision is unfortunately no longer in business. Some of the challenges that we have with this display could benefit from firmware updates, but for the moment, this is not an option. There are still ways to ask for help, though. A resource that may be of use is the BrailleMe users discussion mailing list, where knowledgeable users of the display can help with problems you're encountering. If you are looking for firmware updates for the display as the manufacturer's website is no longer operational, we have an archive of BrailleMe resources for this.
